My Mother, the early years
My Mother, what a beauty she was and still is, inside and out. She was born in 1930 in Sioux City, Iowa, but lived most of her life in California. She didn’t have the greatest childhood. Her parents divorced when she was very young and my Grandmother married 2 more times. With my Grandmother’s 3rd marriage, she eloped leaving my Mother on her own at 16 years old. My Mother still managed to stay in high school and have a part-time job to support herself. Even then, she managed to have a positive attitude about life and still was a happy fun girl. She was even a cheerleader while she was in high school. She graduated high school in 1948. What was always kind of funny to me was that she went to Bishop High School in Bishop, California and her name was Bonnie Bischel. So she was Bonnie Bischel from Bishop. My Father would always call her, “Bitchen Bonnie Bischel from Bishop”, just to tease her. My Mother and Father married in 1949. They were married for 52 years until my Father passed away. My Mother and I talk on the phone at least 5 times a week. We live in different states so we don’t get to see each other as much as we would like to. Our phone calls are very special to both of us. She is my Mother who I love very much, but also my best friend. I am so blessed that way!
